Sugar Mill
Founded in 1881 by Baron Estevão Ribeiro de Rezende to replace slave work by mechanization and hired man power. There were serious difficulties to maintain the imported machines in operation. In 1899 it was sold to Societè Sucrérie Brèsiliennes, a French group which ran six other sugar mills in the state of São Paulo. At the time the Engenho Central became one of the most important sugar mills in the country, with an annual production of 100 thousand sugar bags and 3 million liters of alcohol. The sugar and alcohol production was discontinued in 1974 and the building considered a historic patrimony. The 12 thousand square meters of buildings surrounded by S80 thousand square meters of green area are now an important cultural, artistic and recreational site of the city.
Prudente de Moraes Museum
An anciente Brazilian imperial style house, it was the home of the first civil president of Brazil. This Historic and Pedagogical museum exhibits pieces that illustrate the life of the ex-president Prudente de Moraes and the beginning of the Republic. Located on the corner of Santo Antonio and Prudente de Moraes Street, downtown.
Tupi Park
A beautiful preserved natural park, with varied species of vegetation. Visitors can come for a picnic, a barbecue or a walk through the tree-shaded alleys while children can enjoy the wooden made playground and the water driven corn pounder.
The Agronomy School "Luiz de Queiroz"
The oldest Agronomy School in the country. It was founded in 1895 by Luiz Vicente de Souza Queiroz who donated his 'São João da Montanha' farm for the government to build the University. In 1901 Luiz de Queiroz's dream came true. The 56 hectare university park designed by the Belgium landscape engineer Arsenio Putterman in 1907 became one of the most beautiful campus in the country.
he Lord of the Horto
A small baroque chapel built in 1873. Historical pieces of religious art on display. Located on Prudente de Moraes Street, next to José Bonifácio square downtown.
Methodist Church Downtown
Built in ecletic style with neo-roman and neo-gothic features in september 7, 1929, the Third Methodist Church in Brazil is one of the most ancient churches in town.
Saint Peter Church at Monte Alegre
Also known as "Igreja do Monte Alegre", it is famous for the frescos of the well known Brazilian artist Alfredo Volpi.
Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus
Noted for its marvelous pieces of sacred art and several frescos. Located on 640 São Francisco de Assis Street.
Church of the Immaculate Conceição
Noted for its modern architecture and long, stained glass windows. Located in Vila Rezende, an industrialized neighborhood alongside the right bank of the river.
Saint Anthony Cathedral
Built in roman style for 1,000 people in 1959. Located downtown.
Harbor Street
It used to be a fishermen's neighborhood. Some of them still live in the small houses built along the river. They tell old stories and remember the time of the abundant fish (piracema). Fishing rods and bate (worms) for the visitors can be bought at some of those houses.
Rua do Porto Park
It's one of the new parks in the city with 200 thousand square meters of green area which include a lake, running tracks and playgrounds. Fishing, ballooning and canoeing competitions take place there, as well as shows and art performances. Restaurants and snack bars have become the meeting place for the city's people and tourists.
e Settler House
It is one of the first houses built in Piracicaba and it is a historic patrimony of the state and the municipality. It houses cultural events, exhibits and art displays. Located on Rua do Porto, on the left side of the Piracicaba river banks.
Mirante Park
One of the favorite historical sites, with a view of the river, the falls, the old Rua do Porto with the city buildings in the background. Alleys covered with native trees and typical vegetation are a constant invitation for a pleasant walk.
Waterfall of the Piracicaba River
The waterfall tells the story of the city's foundation and is a permanent attraction, even during the dry season. In the rainy season the waterfall is majestic.
Suspended Bridge
The suspended bridge will take you over the other side of the river to the Old Sugar Mill. It has a magnificent view of the river falls and Rua do Porto.
